There are two A+ exams and areas of study, and you're expected to achieve certification in both to be considered A+ competent. Once you start your A+ training program you'll be taught how to work in antistatic conditions and build and fix computers. You'll also cover fault-finding and diagnostic techniques, both remotely and via direct access. Perhaps you see yourself as a man or woman who is involved with a big team - supporting, fixing and maintaining networks, you should include CompTIA Network+ to your training package, or consider an MCSA or MCSE with Microsoft to give you a more advanced experience of the way networks operate.

An area that's often missed by those considering a training program is 'training segmentation'. Essentially, this is the way the course is divided up for timed release to you, which can make a dramatic difference to what you end up with. Delivery by courier of each element stage by stage, taking into account your exam passes is how things will normally arrive. While seeming sensible, you might like to consider this: What if you don't finish all the sections or exams? And what if you find the order of the modules counter-intuitive? Without any fault on your part, you mightn't complete everything fast enough and consequently not get all your materials.

For future safety and flexibility, many trainees now want to request that all their modules (now paid for) are couriered out in one package, all at the beginning. You can then decide in which order and at what speed you'd like to take your exams.

The right sort of package of training should also offer wholly authorised exam simulation and preparation packages. Often students can get thrown by trying to prepare themselves with questions that aren't from official boards. Sometimes, the terminology in the real exams can be completely unlike un-authorised versions and you need to be ready for this. Simulated exams can be invaluable as a resource to you - so that when you come to take the proper exam, you don't get phased.
