IT Careers Training - An Update

With hundreds of computer study programs on the market today, it’s sometimes daunting to know where to start. Choose one that’s in line with your personal character, and that will be a useful asset in the working environment. You can choose from user skills like Microsoft Office packages, or take a career track and specialise. User-friendly courses will soon propel you to achieving your goals.

By reducing overhead structures, computer training providers can now offer the latest courses that have great quality training and guidance for much lower prices than those expected from the old-style trainers.

Don’t accept anything less than accredited simulation materials and an exam preparation system as part of your training package. Don’t go for training programs relying on non-accredited preparation materials for exams. Their phraseology is sometimes startlingly different - and this leads to huge confusion when the proper exam time arrives. As you can imagine, it is really important to ensure that you’re completely ready for your final certified exam before embarking on it. Rehearsing simulated tests helps build your confidence and will avoid you getting frustrated with wasted exam attempts.

A typical blunder that potential students often succumb to is to concentrate on the course itself, and take their eye off the end result they want to achieve. Schools are full of unaware students that chose an ‘interesting’ course - rather than what would get them the job they want. It’s quite usual, for instance, to get a great deal of enjoyment from a year of study and then spend 20 miserable years in a tiresome job role, as a consequence of not performing the correct level of soul-searching at the beginning.

Get to grips with what you want to earn and how ambitious you are. This can often control what precise accreditations will be expected and what’ll be expected of you in your new role. Before setting out on a learning programme, it’s good advice to chat over the specific job requirements with an experienced professional, to make sure the training path covers all the bases.

When was the last time you considered the security of your job? For most people, this issue only becomes a talking point when we get some bad news. Unfortunately, the painful truth is that true job security has gone the way of the dodo, for all but the most lucky of us. In actuality, security now only emerges in a fast increasing marketplace, driven by a lack of trained workers. It’s this shortage that creates the correct environment for a secure marketplace - a more attractive situation all round.

A rather worrying British e-Skills survey brought to light that over 26 percent of all IT positions available haven’t been filled mainly due to an appallingly low number of appropriately certified professionals. Quite simply, we only have the national capacity to fill three out of each 4 job positions in IT. This alarming reality shows the validity and need for more commercially trained Information Technology professionals across the United Kingdom. It would be hard to imagine if a better time or market conditions is ever likely to exist for gaining qualification for this swiftly growing and blossoming sector.

Including examinations upfront then including an exam guarantee is popular with many training course providers. Consider the facts:

It’s become essential these days that we have to be a little more ‘marketing-savvy’ - and generally we know that for sure we are actually being charged for it - it’s not because they’re so generous they want to give something away! Those who go in for their examinations when it’s appropriate, funding them as they go are much better placed to get through first time. They’re thoughtful of their investment and take the necessary steps to ensure they are ready.

Do your exams somewhere close to home and find the best deal for you at the time. A great deal of money is secured by some training companies who get money upfront for exam fees. Many students don’t take them for one reason or another but the company keeps the money. Believe it or not, there are training companies that actually rely on students not sitting all the exams - as that’s how they make a lot of their profit. Pay heed to the fact that, in the majority of cases of ‘exam guarantees’ - they control when and how often you can re-take the exam. They’ll only allow a re-take once completely satisfied.

VUE and Prometric examinations are approximately 112 pounds in the UK. Students should be very wary of forking out hundreds of pounds extra in ‘Exam Guarantee’ fees (often hidden in the cost) - when good quality study materials, the proper support and consistent and systematic learning, coupled with quality exam simulation software is what will really see you through.

Students who consider this area of study can be very practical by nature, and don’t always take well to classrooms, and poring through books and manuals. If you’re thinking this sounds like you, go for more modern interactive training, with on-screen demonstrations and labs. Long-term memory is enhanced when all our senses are brought into the mix - experts have been clear on this for decades now.

Interactive full motion video utilising video demo’s and practice lab’s will turn you off book-based study for ever more. And you’ll actually enjoy doing them. Each company you’re contemplating must be pushed to demo a few samples of their training materials. Expect video tutorials, instructor led classes and many interactive sections.

Many companies provide online training only; and although this is okay the majority of the time, consider what happens if your access to the internet is broken or you get slow speeds and down-time etc. It’s much safer to rely on CD and DVD ROM materials that will solve that problem.
